There are only two things that have been scientifically proven to improve scar quality. Mederma and Vitamin E oil are not on the list. Topical silicone in either sheet or liquid application and sunscreen. Pink scars are sensitive to the sun even in skin types that never burn (black and dark brown) so sunscreen is essential during the early healing of a scar. Dr. Hubbard believes so strongly in this product he gives a bottle to all of his post-op patients. Topical silicone should be used for at least 3 months after surgery and sunscreen should be used until the scar is no longer pink.
