Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that either improves the function (improve breathing) and/or  the shape the nose (improve appearance). Depending on the patient’s goals it can be cosmetic procedure or medically necessary procedure or a combination of both. See all before and after plastic surgery gallery pictures.

Rhinoplasty is accomplished by removing excess bone and cartilage from beneath the skin covering the nose.  In some cases, the excess cartilage is reused to help support the new nasal shape or help prevent collapse with inhalation.  The changes may be subtle or dramatic, depending on the needs of the patient.

The Consultation

Dr. Hubbard’s goal is to give you the nose you have always wanted. A nose that functions properly and is in harmony with your other facial features. Often patients and doctors struggle to effectively communicate what is the desired shape and appearance of the nose. For this reason, Dr. Hubbard will use digital editing software to alter your pictures during the consultation. Patients are comforted by confirming that their desires are being heard and completely understood with this visual tool. Previous injuries, nasal surgeries, facial proportion, breathing issues and other important factors will also be discussed at your visit.

Care & Recovery

A rhinoplasty procedure can last between 2 to 3 hours. It is done as an outpatient procedure, i.e. patient’s rarely spend the night. During surgery the skin is separated from the bone and cartilage of the nose. Under direct vision the structure and shape of the nose is altered by reshaping the cartilage and bone. Afterword the skin is redraped and  an external and internal splint (or support device) to hold the nose in the correct position. After one week, the splint and any sutures are removed.

During the first week following the procedure, patients are advised to keep their head elevated. There may be some swelling and bruising the first two days after surgery, but these should subside considerably after a week or two has elapsed. In most cases, rhinoplasty patients can return to work within a week. Residual swelling is usually only noticeable to the patient and the surgeon and will decrease gradually.

The Final Result

Depending on the patient’s desires the result can subtle or dramatic, but  the goal is to produce a natural-looking nose that functions properly and is in balance with the patient’s facial proportion.

During your consultation Dr. Hubbard will discuss with you your goals and expectations and determine if this is the right procedure for you. To schedule your private consultation with Dr. Hubbard please contact our office  or directly at 214.270-4813.
