Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Dallas, TX

The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a very common procedure performed today. The surgery’s popularity stems from both its ability to change many different body types and its powerful impact on the patient’s overall body shape.

The procedure was initially designed for women, who after having kids, cannot regain a flat abdomen through diet and exercise alone. This inability has nothing to do with inadequate will power! Usually there is extra skin, residual areas of fat, stretched out abdominal muscles, or a combination the above.

Now with the popularity of massive weight loss surgery, this procedure has gone through several modifications to deal with additional problems (mainly extreme skin excess).

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is safe and effective for patients with:

  • No skin excess but an abdominal bulge (stretched out abdominal muscles)
  • Skin excess and abdominal bulge
  • Skin excess, abdominal bulge and fat deposits (usually present over the hips)
  • Significant skin excess following massive weight loss

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” should be approached with caution if:

  • The patient has a significant medical condition
  • Plans to become pregnant in the future
  • Plans to lose significant weight in the future

Tummy Tuck Consultation

The consultation is divided into two parts. First, Dr. Hubbard will need to confirm that you are in adequate medical condition to safely undergo the procedure. Next, he will discuss your priorities and desires. Combining that information with your individual anatomy (during the physical exam) Dr. Hubbard and you will decide together which variation of the procedure will create the abdominal shape you desire. An abdominoplasty is not a cookie cutter or “one-size-fits-all” procedure. Choosing the wrong procedure could leave a patient with unresolved, or worse, new problems, such as upper abdominal fullness, longer or extra scars, or upper hip fullness.

Tummy Tuck After Care and Recovery

The surgery itself is performed under general anesthesia and can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the individual patient. Drains are usually necessary and are left in place for 7 to 10 days. The incisions which are placed low across the abdomen from hip bone to hip bone and around the belly button are closed with dissolvable stitches (e.g. no sutures need to be removed).

If this procedure is done alone, patients can decide to stay overnight in our cosmetic surgery hotel or go home. Either way, patients should be closely monitored for 2-3 days following surgery. If the tummy tuck is combined with other procedures (breast surgery, liposuction, mommy makeover), an overnight stay is highly encouraged.

Every patient is different in terms of long term recovery. Usually patients are able to perform most daily activity unassisted in around 10 – 14 days from surgery. Although heavy lifting is not allowed for the first month. At one month, patients can begin to return to their pre-surgical exercise routines without problem.

The Final Result

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” procedures are one of the most rewarding surgeries for both the patient and physician. The procedure flattens the tummy, decreases the waistline, removes excess skin, removes the majority of stretch marks, and greatly improves the fit of clothes. Not to mention, the improvement in self-esteem. Assuming a healthy diet and stable weight, the results are permanent.

During your consultation Dr. Hubbard will discuss with you your goals and expectations and determine if this is the right procedure for you. To schedule your private consultation with Dr. Hubbard please email our office or call directly at 214.370.4813.
